TSUMORI CHISATO

Tsumori Chisato is the undisputed queen of Tokyo’s catwalks – and with shops in Hong Kong, Paris and Japan she isone of the hardest working women in the fashion industry. Originally it was the Japanese designer Issey Miyake who first dicovered Tsumori and kick-started her career. After graduating from the Japanese fashion academy Bunka Fukusogakuinin 1976, Tsumori worked for a number of designers – including Issey Miyake –before she founded Tsumori Chisato Design in 1983. In 1990 she further-developsthe brand into the format it’s known by it today. She is famous for her colourful embroideries, and her signature pieces are the silk and chiffon patchworks and the stunning handmade ornaments.
The collection’s trademark is daring colours in pink, turquoise and purple. Tsumori Chisato describes her work as, “sexy, but sweet and fun” – three adjectives which make fashion-forward women in Asia, France and the rest of the world buying her clothes season after season.
